Appreciation for one Sweet Lady
Teacher Appreciation Week, December 15-19
Teachers and school staff shape the minds of our children and our future. There really are no words to express gratitude for all they do. Join us in celebrating their commitment to our children.
You can participate in these three ways:
1) Bring a savory or sweet breakfast treat into the staff lounge one morning! (PTA will make sure there is coffee and tea, but parents are asked to add: muffins, hard boiled eggs, fruit, croissants, breakfast casserole, donuts, etc.) Sign-up today!
2) Write a thank-you note on a strip of paper, labeled with the staff person’s name. You can write a general note of appreciation, even if you don’t know the staff personally and sign it from “Hyattsville Parents” to let them know we are thinking of them. Place notes in the manila envelope on the PTA bulletin board near the front office by Tuesday December 16. We will sort and place the notes in staff mailboxes on Wednesday morning. See a staff list here.
3) Have your child draw a picture or write a card, thanking the office staff, specialty staff or teachers for all they do to make Hyattsville Elementary a great place to learn and grow! These can also be left in the manilla envelope on the PTA bulletin board or delivered through your child’s classroom teacher.
Thanks for helping us recognize the hard work of our HES teachers and staff!
The art room needs a drying rack
HES’s new art teacher, Sarah Yazvac is seeking help to purchase a drying rack for students’ art. With no good place to put the art when it’s still wet, students place their paintings on window sills, on top of cabinets, and on the floor. A drying rack will provide a clean, safe place for students to store their work.
If you’d like to help, you can make a donation through the GoFundMe site set up by Ms. Yazvac at http://www.gofundme.com/HESart
You can also read the article about it in the Hyattsville Life & Times.

HES Rocked!
The HES gym was rocking on Friday night at the PTA sponsored Fall Family Dance and Ice Cream Social! The gym was full of balloons, limbo dancers, and jumping tunes. The cafeteria was hopping with ice cream, M&Ms, and whipped cream.
Special thanks go to the volunteers who made it happen! Audrey Engdahl and Michelle Garren did a wonderful job organizing. Barbara Morris, Lisa Davidson, Ellen and Jerry Simmons, Joan E. Myles, and Amy Boccardi were top notch ice cream scoopers and topping monitors. Talia Guzman-Gonzalez and Anton Viegas graciously loaned their sound/dance equipment. Ms. Burton and Ms. Penate spread the word via robocall. And DJ Jazzy James Johnson rocked the gym!
Thanks everyone for a fun night!
